The city of Erfurt, with its more than 1250 years of history will  work its own special magic on you- with its interesting ancient buildings like St. Mary’s Cathedral and St. Severus Church, Europe’s longest inhabited bridge- Merchants’ Bridge, with medieval churches and monasteries.
Round your visit in Thuringia’s capital off by an evening at a theatre or concert performance. Weimar, the city of the classic age of German National literature  - connected to the names of Goethe and Schiller presents itself with museums, historic monuments and former residences of the duke’s family. The sweeping well-tended landscape parks invite for a relaxing stroll while contemplating German literature history. Trips to the nearby Thuringian forest are recommended  for all nature lovers, hikers and winter athletes. Another recommendable outing is the town of Arnstadt, the oldest town of the new Bundeslaender and the "Gate to the Thuringian Forest". In Arnstadt you can learn about Johann Sebastian Bach and his family history or visit the Bach Church with its restored organ. Do not miss a look at the unique triangular market square where you can find a very unusual memorial to young Bach.
